If you wanna make high resolution prints you gotta make sure the quality is high enough to make it last on a print of the bigger size. You can't use 600x200 pixel image and make a 20"/30" poster, just doesn't work. Check aroudn for recommneded siezes and whatnot so that you know what kinda res you need to maintain for poster-prints.

i dont quite understand what your going after, but if you're after a print sized version and you havent made it to scale already, there isnt much you can do. i can explain a little bit of technicalities for you. When creating a new image, you set the pixel dimensions, the inch dimensions, and the dpi. all three are afftected by the other variables. DPI is the number of pixels per inch. a pixel has no set size, and thats what the DPI does. so if the dpi is 72 (the standard screen resolution), there are 72 pixels per inch. this means that if your image is 10inx10in, the image will be 720 pixels by 720 pixels. but if you bumb the DPI up to 300 (a much higher resolution better used for higher quality and better detailed prints), a 10inx10in image will be 3000px by 3000px. this means the resolution of the image is much higher, and you can add a lot more detail to it, but it also means you need to use larger images and create your image at a much bigger scale.

to check for a good print size, go to the image size menu in photoshop (its located under the Image tap in PS). This will tell you the pixel dimensions, inch dimensions, and DPI. im guessing since you havent worked with prints before youre image is either going to be very smal inch wise (4 or 5 inches) with a moderate pixel dimension (1 or 2 thousand) or everything will be jacked up.

the best way to see how big your image is in reality is to zoom at print size (right click your image with the zoom tool selected) the size it shows up at is the actual size of the image, the size the image would be printed at. you can easily enlarge your image, but remember you will loose quality the larger you make it,
